A Letter From Coach CristFebruary 2012, Once again, the Lambkins had a fantastic 2011 Track season! We started our season by having 137 students come out for the track team, which added depth to our program. Our coaching staff believes that the more students we can get out for the team the better, that way more kids get to experience the personal rewards that track has to offer. We produce very competitive teams while teaching students to push themselves so they can achieve their personal goals. Continuing a tradition from the previous two years the Lambkin Team Challenge kicked off our competitive season with a team focused inner squad event, complete with costumes and a watermelon relay. This event encourages students to try new events and familiarize themselves with all of what track and field has to offer while getting to know their teammates and coaches. From the competitive standpoint, the Boys and Girls Teams were both city champions. The Boys were Conference Champions and the Girls placed second at Conference behind state champions Loveland. We had 7 first team all conference athletes and 11 second team all conference athletes. The Lambkins qualified 33 athletes for the state meet in 28 different events whereas last year we qualified 28 athletes in 20 events. Additionally, the 2011 team broke 6 school records: Monica Franco in the girls high jump and 100m high hurdles, Jade Ariaz, Ray Bozmans, Matt Hughes and Ben Marum in the boys 4x100m relay, Katie Weber in the 300m hurdles, Raymond Bozmans in the 200m and Stephen Palmier in the Triple Jump. In a school such as Fort Collins High School, traditions are extremely important. We continued our excellence in performance which was recapped in the previous paragraph. Additionally, Fort Collins High School has always been known for its’ school spirit and team atmosphere, we continued to nurture this approach by having team captains (Aubree Dietrich, Will Huggins, Drew Gilliland, Marci Witczak, Emily Elliott, Raymond Bozmans), which gave students leadership opportunities. Also, we continued our Lambkin Team Challenge Event, daily team warm-up, team dinners, Egg Hunt, team warm-up games and our philosophy of watching/participating in the entire track meet from start to finish so we support all events and teammates. Hosting quality, competitive track meets has also been tradition for Fort Collins High School. The Runners Roost of Fort Collins and Foot of the Rockies Invitational both hosted by FCHS continue to be some of the most competitive meets in the state of Colorado. Furthermore, continuing to honor a long time coach and leader at Fort Collins High School, we hosted the John Martin Invitational as a state qualifying meet which was a great way to display our talents at our home track. Through donations from the banner program and hosting track meets we were able to update our school uniforms, purchase new starting blocks and update some of our throwing implements. Thanks to all the parents and business owners who have supported the FCHS track program through donations and helping volunteer at meets. Conrad Crist Head Track Coach
