There are 15 coaches on staff at Fort Collins High School and they have more than a century of combined coaching experience. In addition, most have competed at the collegiate level in track & field or another sport. If you are looking to have yourself or your son or daughter coached by a highly experienced and qualified staff, then competing in track & field as a Lambkin is the right choice.

Conrad Crist has been the head coach at Fort Collins High School since 2010. He spent the previous six years as head coach at Windsor High School prior to returning to where his coaching career began, which was right here at FCHS as an assistant to coach Pat Busteed. His focus will be coaching the sprints and jumps.
Coach Crist participated in four different sports in high school, track and field, cross-country, basketball and football. He attended Western State College his first year in college where he enjoyed intramural sports, snowboarding, hiking, fishing and running, but one thing he missed from high school was the organization of competitive sports. His sister was at Colorado State University on a cross country and track scholarship and shared with him how much she loved the school and coaches. Crist took his sister's advice and transferred to CSU where he met with Coach Hessel and decided to try out for the track team as a walk-on athlete. However, after months of training he became prone to injury and even partially tore his patella tendon on his jumping knee. His mind wanted to compete, but his body was telling him different. Crist realized it would be best to stop training and focus on school. In a conversation with his father, Wes Crist, who was a coach in the Poudre School District for over 35-years, suggested he start coaching. His dad told him coaching is more rewarding than competing and he has found out his father was right. He started coaching under Mark Long at Webber Junior High School and quickly found out coaching was a passion his. Crist enjoyed watching students accomplish their goals and achieve things they never thought were possible. Coaching has been one of the most rewarding experiences of his life. Crist completed his practicum here at Fort Collins High School in 2002 and 2003 and was an assistant to Head Coach Pat Busteed for the track and field program. He learned a tremendous amount about coaching and training in his two seasons at FCHS. Crist graduated from CSU at the age of 23 and was hired as a P.E. teacher at Windsor High School in 2003. The head track and field coaching position was offered to him later that fall. At such a young age, he was hesitant about taking the head coaching position and being a leader of young individuals, but he received a ton of support from the community and administration. There were only 27 students in his first year as head coach in 2004. Yet, he built Windsor's track and field team to 130 participants, one of the leading class 4A track and field programs in Colorado, and was awarded the Northern League Coach of the Year in 2009 by implementing what learned from Coach Busteed and his father. He views this as one of his greatest accomplishments as a high school coach. Now that he is at FCHS, he will continue his coaching philosophy with the student-athletes at our school. Crist, along with his assistants, make the track and field team a place where students feel accepted, challenged and supported. He plans to carry on the lasting track tradition. Everything for Crist has come full circle and he is proud to be a Lambkin once again.
